What is a Knee Walker?

A knee walker is a medical device that is designed to give sufferers of foot and ankle injuries the mobility they need to get back to their normal lifestyle. Knee walkers allow for assisted mobility, which means while you are rehabilitating your injured foot or ankle, you can get back to work, get around the house with ease and complete your daily tasks. Knee walkers are designed for convenience, comfort and stability. A steerable knee walker allows the operator to guide the knee walker in any direction they want to travel. Knee walkers are light weight and easy to fold in order to be stored or transported.

How Do I Use a Knee Walker?

To use a knee walker, first make sure that it has been adjusted to meet your height requirements. You should be able to rest your leg comfortably on the center knee pad and reach the handle bars without strain. Knee walkers can be adjusted without the use of tools.
When you have adjusted the knee walker, place the knee of the injured leg on the knee pad and rest the ankle on the rear support pad. Using your good leg, push off from the floor as you would if you were operating a scooter. The knee walker should begin to roll across the floor. If you are using a steerable knee walker, use the handle bars to turn the knee walker in the direction you'd like to travel.
